The ideal height of a bathroom vanity depends on comfort, ease of use, and the size of the users. Here are the most important guidelines for determining the correct height:

Standard Height of a Washbasin Furniture

- Average height : 80 - 90 cm from the floor to the top of the sink.
- Adjustable height : Depending on the height of the users:

  • Shorter than 1.65 m → 75-80 cm
  • Between 1.65 - 1.85 m → 85-90 cm
  • Taller than 1.85 m → 90-95 cm


Difference between a countertop basin and an integrated washbasin

- Surface-mounted bowl :

  • The furniture is placed lower (±75 cm), so that the total height including the wash basin does not exceed 90 cm.

    Integrated washbasin :

  • The countertop with washbasin is placed directly at 85-90 cm.


Floating or Standing Furniture?

- Floating bathroom furniture:

Advantage: Adjustable height and easier cleaning.

Standing bathroom furniture:

  • Fixed height, usually around 85 cm .

Special Heights for Children or Disabled Persons

- For children → Place in a lower position (60-75 cm) or use a step.

  • Surface-mounted washbasin (freestanding washbasin on a piece of furniture): The furniture itself is often 70-75 cm high , so that the total height including the washbasin remains 80-90 cm .
  • Built-in washbasin (integrated into the furniture): Often placed at 85 cm .
  • Double sink: Keep the same height on both sides.


Adjust for comfort

  • For tall people: 90-95 cm may be more comfortable.
    For children: A lower piece of furniture or a step can be useful.


Height of a bathroom column cabinet

The ideal height for a tall bathroom cabinet depends on the available space and ease of use. Here are the guidelines:

Floor-standing column cabinet

  • Stands directly on the floor or on small legs.
  • Average height: 160-200 cm .
  • Ensure there is at least 30 cm distance from the ceiling for a spacious effect.

Floating (hanging) column cabinet

  • Mount the bottom 30-40 cm above the floor for an airy look.
  • The top usually comes to a height of 170-190 cm .
  • Make sure that the cabinet remains easily accessible, especially the top shelves.

  • For a washbasin cabinet: Mount the tall cabinet at the same height as the washbasin cabinet for a sleek look.
  • With a mirrored cabinet: Ensure symmetry if the column cabinet hangs next to it.
